Flag of Syria. Man with Syrian flag. The current flag was first adopted in 1958 to represent Syria as part of the United Arab Republic, and was used until 1961. It was readopted in 1980. Since its first adoption, variations of the red-white-black flag have been used in various Arab Unions of Syria with Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, and Iraq.

The Syrian flag consists of tricolor of horizontal stripes of red, white, and black color. Furthermore, there are two green five-pointed stars in the middle of the white stripe. The tricolor was adopted during the struggle for independence from the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century.

Jul 24, 2018 · The flag has come to represent the independence and freedom that the people of Syria will get from the oppression. In terms of design, the flag features the same four colors as before namely red, white, green, and black. The flag has three bands with the topmost band being green while the bottom one is black.
