- कथावाचक और हरिहर के बीच मधुर, आत्मीय और गहरे संबंध है। इस संबंध के मुख्य कारण थे - कथावाचक और हरिहर काका का पड़ोसी होना, बचपन में हरिहर काका का कथावाचक को खूब प्यार और दुलार देना था तथा बड़ा होने पर कथावाचक और हरिहर काका का आपस में मित्रता का संबंध स्थापित हो जाना। जिसके कारण हरिहर काका और कथावाचक आपस में खुलकर बातचीत करते थे।
- हरिहर काका नि:संतान थे और उनके हिस्से में पंद्रह बीघे उपजाऊ जमीन थी। मंहत और भाई दोनों का उद्देश्य हरिहर काका की इसी उपजाऊ पंद्रह बीघे जमीन को अपने कब्जे में करना था। अपने इस उद्देश्य की पूर्ति के लिए दोनों ने पहले तो काका को अपनी चिकनी-चुपड़ी बातों में फँसाना शुरू किया जब उससे भी बात नहीं बनी तो उन पर ताकत का प्रयोग करना शुरू कर दिया। दोनों ही उनकी जमीन को हथियाने के लिए किसी भी हद तक जा सकते थे इसलिए हरिहर काका को मंहत और भाई एक ही श्रेणी के लगने लगे।
- ठाकुरबारी के प्रति गाँववालों के मन में जो अपार श्रद्धा के भाव थे उनसे गाँववालों की ठाकुरजी के प्रति अगाध विश्वास, भक्ति-भावना ईश्वर में आस्तिकता, और एक प्रकार की अंधश्रद्धा जैसी मनोवृतियों का पता चलता है। क्योंकि गाँववाले अपनी हर छोटी-बड़ी सफलता का श्रेय ठाकुरबारी को ही देते थे।
- हरिहर काका अनपढ़ थे फिर भी उन्हें दुनियादारी की बेहद समझ थी। वे यह जानते थे कि जब तक जमीन उनके पास है तब तक सभी उनका आदर करेंगें। उनके भाई लोग उनसे ज़बरदस्ती ज़मीन अपने नाम कराने के लिए डराते थे तो उन्हें गाँव में दिखावा करके ज़मीन हथियाने वालों की याद आती थी। काका ने उन्हें नारकीय जीवन जीते देखा था इसलिए उन्होंने ठान लिया था चाहे मंहत उकसाए चाहे भाई दिखावा करे वह ज़मीन किसी को भी नहीं देंगे। इन बातों से स्पष्ट होता है कि काका अनपढ़ होते हुए भी दुनियादारी की बेहतर समझ रखते थे।
