Vereeniging. Vereeniging is a city in southern part of Gauteng province on the banks of the Vaal river. The city is one of the most important industrial manufacturing centres in South Africa, with its chief products being iron, steel, pipes, bricks, tiles and processed lime.
Light-heartedly known as the place in South Africa with the most vehicle dealerships per square metre, the city is probably best known for the Treaty of Vereeniging, responsible for bringing the Second Boer War of 1899 to 1902 to a close. The memorial which marked the spot, on which the treaty was signed, now rests at the city library.
