Plastic Man was created by writer-artist Jack Cole, and first appeared in Police Comics #1 (August 1941). [2] One of Quality Comics' signature characters during the Golden Age of Comic Books, Plastic Man can stretch his body into any imaginable form.
In mid-1941, owner Everett “Busy” Arnold asked Cole to create a new hero for Quality’s upcoming new Police Comics title—something in the tradition of Will Eisner’s Spirit. Cole responded with his own sort of super-detective, a hero who always got his man in his own way: Plastic Man.
Firebrand, the initial lead feature, was soon eclipsed by Jack Cole 's popular Plastic Man, who took the cover and the lead from issues #5–102.
