Early life. Ashutosh Mukherjee was born on 29 June 1864 at Bowbazar, Kolkata in a Brahmin family to Jagattarini Devi and Ganga Prasad Mukhopadhyaya, a well-known doctor who founded the South Sub Urban School in Calcutta.
He lived in an era where he walked the corridors with stalwarts like Tagore, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, P C Roy, Swami Vivekananda, and so many more, whose calibre and intellect remain unmatched even to this day. Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee’s story can be traced back to an age where education made a difference.
Then, in 1914, he founded the @Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) to promote scientific research in India. Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee was responsible for the foundation of the Bengal Technical Institute in 1906 and the College of Science of Calcutta University in 1914.
