In The Two Towers, Éowyn, a daughter of the House of Eorl and the niece of King Théoden of Rohan, is introduced in Meduseld, the King's hall at Edoras. She is the daughter of Éomund and Théodwyn (Théoden's sister), and the sister of Éomer.
In Peter Jackson's film versions of The Two Towers and The Return of the King, Éowyn is portrayed by Australian actress Miranda Otto. The role was originally offered to actress Alison Doody, but Doody had to withdraw from the project due to pregnancy.

Character Analysis. We might be jealous of Éowyn's life on paper (since she's the beautiful niece of a king, Théoden) if we didn't know how completely awful her life truly is. She is proud and strong, just like her brother, Éomer. The only thing she really wants to do is to fight for her country and to win honor with her sword.
- Frodo Baggins. The Ring-bearer and main protagonist of The Lord of the Rings. Frodo, a lowly Hobbit, has accepted the tremendously dangerous task of returning the Ring to the fires of Mordor in which it was created—the only place where it can be destroyed.
- Samwise (Sam) Gamgee. The Hobbit who serves Frodo, traveling with his master on his quest to return the Ring to Mordor. - Gandalf the White. A Wizard of supreme good and a staunch enemy of the corrupted Saruman and the evil Sauron. Gandalf the Grey, seemingly killed in The Fellowship of the Ring when he falls into a chasm, returns from beyond the grave as Gandalf the White, or the White Rider.
- Legolas. The only Elf in the Fellowship, possessed of superhuman eyesight that serves him well in warning his traveling party of approaching Orcs.
