Dec 5, 2022 · Introduction. It was on 16 Sept of 1963, that the foundation stone of the 12 Sainik Schools in the chain of 33 Sainik Schools sprawling across the length and breadth of the country was laid down.
On 16 September 1963 the foundation stone of Sainik School Tilaiya was laid in the lap of the nature with the accomplishment of the strenuous job by the then Chief Minister of Bihar K B Sahay, Union Defence Minister K Krishna Menon and the founding Principal Lt. Col. L.E.G. Smith.
Sainik School Tilaiya was founded on 16 September 1963 by the then Bihar Chief Minister Shri K.B. Sahay and Union Defence Minister V.K. Krishna Menon in the picturesque backdrop of Tilaiya Dam of Koderma district with Lt. Col. L.E.G. Smith as its first Principal.
They were conceived in 1961 by V. K. Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India, to rectify the regional and class imbalance amongst the officer cadre of the Indian Military.
