Then, we compared how the 100 films on the Inclusion List performed against the 100 top-grossing films across the same time frame (2019-2022). The results are presented in the chart below. This chart shows us that films can reflect inclusion behind the scenes and challenge the status quo.
KEY DISTRIBUTORS. The Inclusion List reveals which film distributors have the strongest track record of supporting inclusive stories. The distributors recognized by The Inclusion List have ensured that multiple films they released over the past four years focus the story on and employ people from underrepresented groups.
After selecting the time frame of interest, we selected a set of film distributors based on the number of films released each year (2019-2022) that were among the 100 top-grossing each year. Distributors with 3 or more films were included.
The Inclusion List recognizes the 100 top films from 2019 to 2022 that were the most inclusive on screen and behind the camera. Cast inclusion focuses on gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQ+, disability, and age for both leading and all speaking characters.
May 18, 2023 · Among large distributors, Universal Pictures took top honors with 22 films on the list, followed by Sony Pictures Entertainment (14 films) and Warner Bros. Pictures (11 films). For independent distributors, A24 led its peers with 9 movies, with Neon in second place (6 films).
