Trip to Gaumukh or the Gangotri Glacier is a once in a lifetime attempt for some people. It is usually depicted as a 18 Kms trek but in actuality is around 23 kms as the glacier has receded by that much. To reach the mouth of the glacier, one has to go over a huge boulder with the river on side gushing forth.
It covers a distance of 18 km (one way) from Gangotri town to Gomukh, the snout of the Gangotri Glacier and one of the sources of the Ganga River. The trek takes about two days (one way) and passes through scenic forests, meadows, waterfalls, and bridges along the Bhagirathi River.
