Dharmapuri is situated in the northwestern corner of Tamil Nadu and is bounded by the Eastern Ghats to the east, Nallampalli taluk to the South, Palacode taluk to the north, and the Pennagaram taluk to the west. It is located between latitudes N 11 47’ and 12 33’ and longitudes E 77 02’ and 78 40’.
Occupies an area of 4,497.77 km 2 (1,736.60 sq mi) (i.e. 3.46% of Tamil Nadu). It is bounded on the north by Krishnagiri District, on the east by Tiruvannamalai District and Kallakurichi district, on the south by Salem District, and on the west by Karnataka's Chamarajanagar District.
LOCATION AND AREA. After the bifurcation of Krishnagiri District from Dharmapuri District, the present Dharmapuri District is located approximately between 11o 47” and 12o 33” of the North Latitude and between 77o 02” and 78o. 40’30” of east longtitude.
Dharmapuri district, which came into existence from 02.10.1965 is situated in the North western Corner of Tamil Nadu and is bounded by Tiruvannamalai and Villupuram Districts on the east, Salem District on the South, Krishnagiri District on the north and Kaveri river on the west.
