In 1914, with an increasingly international outlook, it was appropriate that the organisation’s name was changed simply to Lloyd’s Register of Shipping. From 1916 the organisation started to establish many national and area committees to promote better understanding of local conditions.
They reached agreement in 1834 to unite and form Lloyd’s Register of British and Foreign Shipping, establishing a General Committee and charitable values. In 1914, with an increasingly international outlook, the organisation changed its name to Lloyd's Register of Shipping.
2020 marks 260 years since the creation of Lloyd's Register at Edward Lloyd's Coffee House. Though Lloyd's Register and the Lloyd's Register Foundation (formed in 2012) have gone on to work around the world, we have never forgotten our origins in Edward Lloyd's Coffee House.

In 1691 the coffee house moved to Lombard Street, close to the Post Office and the Royal Exchange commercial centre.
