PNG isn't as small as JPEG but is lossless so it's good for images with sharp lines. It's in common use on the web now. Personally, I usually use PNG everywhere I can. It's a good compromise between JPG and GIF.

  4. Nov 13, 2015 · These "complete lists" and RFC do not have MIME type image/jpg! But for MIME type image/jpeg some lists do have varying file name extensions (.jpeg, .jpg, …). Other lists do not mention MIME type image/jpeg. Also, there are different types of JPEG Image formats (e.g. Progressive JPEG Image format, JPEG 2000, etcetera) and "JPEG Extensions ...

I am writing an application for camera which need to send video but my camera unit supports jpeg and mjpeg. whats the advantage of motion JPEG over JPEG. Thanks for any advise

  6. Feb 24, 2012 · The only difference I can see with the other pictures is that this one has a capitalized ".JPG" extension instead of a lowercase ".jpg" one. However, if I try to rename the file to a lowercase extension Windows 7 just capitalizes it again. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated. Best regards, Kurt Peek. P.S.

  7. Feb 26, 2010 · JPEG: The JPEG file format was created to optimize photos and other images that use complex color ranges. When saving a JPEG (e.g. in Photoshop) you can set the optimization level you want to achieve from lossless meaning no detail is lost to extremely lossy.

  9. Jul 25, 2011 · I supposed JPEG-LL refers to ITU-T T.81, ISO/IEC IS 10918-1 aka JPEG lossless. While JPEG-LS refers to ITU-T T.87, ISO/IEC IS 14495-1. Technically speaking JPEG-LL is exactly the same standard as the usual 8bits lossy jpeg as found on internet website. JPEG-LS is much much less common.
