You have a cable connected to the motherboard via the monitor's built in hub. You can liken it to an every day extension cable. Whatever you plug into the extension cable is not directly connected to the outlet.

Oct 12, 2023 · I'm using USB-C port #5 to connect to my laptop thus making the upstream USB-C obsolete. According to the documentation, #8 is upstream only. There is nothing in the Menu OSD that could change the port direction. "surprised by the lack of downstream USB-C ports". That statement is confusing to me.

Since the USB Type-C port is USB 3.0 you should use a USB Type-A port on the computer that is also USB 3.0 if you have one. Thank you! I wish the instruction manual was this clear!
