Burke County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census , its population was 87,570. [ 1 ] Its county seat is Morganton .
Burke County is located in west central North Carolina, in the state's Mountain region. It was formed in 1777 and named for Thomas Burke, delegate to the Continental Congress and governor of the state (1781-82).
Located in the west central section of North Carolina’s mountain region, Burke County has a population of about 90,000 people and a diverse economy that includes industrial products from technological, furniture, medical, chemical, machine component and textile manufacturers.
