The Foundation was formally established on 9 March 2001 (under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act of 1956). Since then, Azim Premji has contributed a substantial portion of his wealth to create a philanthropic endowment, valued at approximately INR 2,40,000 crore (USD 29 billion) as of January 2023.
Our work in Jharkhand is in the ‘institutional mode’. We build the professional capacities of key stakeholders through multiple modes of engagement via workshops, teacher forums and exposure visits. We now work in the districts of Gumla, Ranchi and Simdega. Our Health work is present in Bero, Ranchi. Our Livelihoods work is present in Gumla.
Azim Premji Schools are integral to our work in improving K-12 education in India. These demonstration schools give us an opportunity to practise what we advocate and assist in our work with government schoolteachers.
We took our first steps in the field of Education with the belief that a good school is where stories of positive change begin. Keeping this in mind, in 2001, we began programmatic interventions in government schools.
