Within the Hindu trimurti (“trinity”), he acts as the preserver, alongside Brahma the creator and Shiva the destroyer. But in Vaishnava traditions, Vishnu reigns supreme as creator, preserver, and destroyer; all other gods are merely emanations of his godhead.
