Pog means Play of the Game. It has been co-opted to be a word for shock or surprise. It's still used as Play of the Game; especially when something great happens, chats usually spam "POG" to express how great the play was.
Answer: I think "PoG", in its use on Twitch, was inspired by the Overwatch "Play Of the Game" system. But regardless of whether it came from Overwatch streamers or not, it's definitely a Twitch thing. Edit: I know Overwatch's was PotG, but looking it up the "Pog" of Pogchamp literally comes from "Play Of Game". Just in a pre-overwatch form.

I occasionally see people writing "pog" in chat and always wonder what exactly that is supposed to mean. It always seems like something positive or surprising, though. Edit: Oh alright, got it! Thanks for all the answers!
Pogs was a game we used to play which originally started out using juice caps. The name "Pog" comes from that fact, since it's named after Pog (Pineapple, Orange, Guava) juice Pogchamp came from a face made by Ryan Gutierrez (Gootecks) during an actual Pogs championship game (hence, pogchamp)
That is actually a backronym. Pog comes from a old game sold as pog. Gooteck was playing pog and one of his other videos had the face. Twitch had pogchamp emote since 2012 overwatch was 3 years out.
