The JACC Interactive Illustration for the ACC/AHA Aortic Disease Guideline outlines screening of first-degree relatives with aortic imaging and genetic screening in patients with aortic aneurysms or dissections. The tool is accessible at https://www.jacc.org/AorticDiseaseInteractive.
First-degree relatives of patients with aortic root aneurysms, ascending aortic aneurysms, or history of aortic dissection should have screening for aortic disease (SR; LD).
Jun 8, 2024 · Patients at risk for hereditary thoracic aortic disease should undergo genetic testing for known aortopathy genes. For patients with aneurysms of the aortic root or ascending aorta or those with aortic dissection, screening of first-degree relatives with aortic imaging is recommended.

Perform cascade testing on at-risk family relatives (and initiate gene-based management guidelines if applicable). No further testing required at this time. Aortic imaging may be repeated years later, depending on the relative’s age and aortic size.
