At least on par with Amazon. very safe, but yes, Steam has been targeted before, there was a big breach last year, but valve is very transparent with things like that. Steam is very trustworthy, I'd let Steam marry my daughter.
Oct 6, 2020 · I’ve been using it for a good while. Got probably 15+ games off it so far. No VPN, but I do use UOrigin just to be safe. Only had two issues where my antivirus (MalwareBytes) detected false positives and removed the steamapi.dll for the games, making them unplayable. A simple redownload and whitelist fixed this.
Jun 26, 2019 · All games on Steam are 100% without viruses. And that's one of the reasons why purchasing games on Steam is better than downloading them from shady websites. Usually if you're downloading pirated games, there's a high chance that people who cracked it put some viruses inside. But with Steam it's 100% safe. #3.

The long version: Valve is a multi-billion dollar a year company with a global infrastructure that has up to 30 million concurrent users using it at a time. It is very safe to assume they scan any file uploaded to them for ransomware/virus/malicious code.

You aren't likely to get banned because it's darned near impossible to check how you unlocked an achievement (unless you're stupid and make it obvious like doing impossible things such as unlocking ALL achievements at precisely the same time).
Aug 29, 2020 · Yes, as Black Blade suggests use tabs in your browser after logging in to the official site. Then you'll already be logged in to any affiliated and trustworthy sites. I suggest not ever using your Steam Login credentials anywhere else other than the Steam Client and https://www.steampowered.com.
