I don't really have a loyalty to steam or any other store. Steam however offers a very good service. Community boards, steamworkshop to get some mods in a titles that support it, UI is much easier to navigate, reviews (this can be a hit or miss, but still nice to have)... many other things.
Both are the -Big- brothers of the Gaming Industry GOG having ~7000 curated games, Steam having ~75,000 non-curated games but quallity game count being around ~8,000. Both have excellent support, refunding etc. GOG is geared towards old games and no DRM, Steam is new games with DRM.
