Rar takes 7mb, Pea takes 37mb, and WinZip is bloated with 344mb. The newest 7-Zip and PeaZip can work on Windows 2000 and above, but WinRar and WinZip require at least Windows 7. As for history: WZip originates from 1991, WRar from 1995, 7Z from 1999, PeaZ from 2006! As for memory: while these programs were open on idle, as seen here, their RAM ...
Personally, custom compression presets integrated in the context menu. On the other hand the GUI in Winrar is more functional and gets developed, 7z still doesn't have a context menu for Windows11. I like the UI in winrar. But you can't say "exclude pricing" when one is free and the other paid lol.

Oct 29, 2020 · 7zip is better than winrar. Most computer users seem to worship winrar because it has a never ending free trial but 7zip is superior in every way. 7zip is faster, looks more modern, has more options for compressing files and is absolutely free with no stupid free trial that makes the user feel guilty. 7 Zip all the way. 7z. It's just a superior format. It's fully open, and the compression is (very slightly) better on max settings. The only reason rar hangs around is that it was out first, and entrenched technologies can be very hard to displace. RAR the format and winrar the program were both state-of-the-art once.
