A.R. Rahman was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 6 January 1967. Like many other prominent musicians, he was born into a musical family. His father, R. K. Sekhar Mudhaliar, composed and conducted various scores for Malayalam films. He was therefore exposed to music at a very young age, and he started playing the piano at the age of four.

Later, the recording was converted into a full-fledged song ‘ Vellithen Kinnam Pol’ by his father for the Malayalam movie ‘ Penpada’. Soon after, Rahman’s father passed away.
