The project consisted of two routes: Automotive square, Kamptee to MIHAN Metro depot and Prajapati Nagar, East Wardhaman Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar, Hingna. There would be 17 stations on Route no. 1 with a terminal cum depot at MIHAN and 19 stations on Route no. 2 with a terminal cum depot at Lokmanya Nagar.
Nagpur Broad Gauge Metro project with a network of 4 suburban rail lines is a 268.63 km regional rapid transit system (RRTS) that proposes to utilize the Central Railways’ existing tracks to connect Nagpur with nearby towns of Wardha, Katol, Narkhed, Ramtek and Bhandara via a modern comfortable railway system.
Construction work on Nagpur Metro’s 38.215 km Phase 1 started in 2015 with a mix of elevated & at-grade (ground level) lines. Commercial operations on its first section (Khapri – Sitabuldi) was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra on March 8, 2019. The entire Phase 1 project was inaugurated on December 11, 2022.
