Status update on road closures Höfn / Egilsstaðir / Mývatn. UPDATE 16:15: Höfn - Djúpivogur opened about ten minutes ago, but may close again around 18:00. Just heard from the road administration - they say it is very unlikely that any of the roads between Höfn and Mývatn will open today, but they are looking into opening all roads tomorrow.

Höfn is the lobster capital of Iceland. The residents throw the Lobster Festival in June to celebrate lobster fishing, which makes up a large part of their livelihood. It is such a hard life as a lobster fisherman in that section of the globe they really celebrate! You will taste the best lobster you have ever eaten in Höfn.
Apr 16, 2020 · There’s a lot more to do in Hofn than Vik I would say, at least as it pertains to a night out. Otto is a freaking great restaurant in Hofn, probably my favorite place in Iceland I’ve eaten for Icelandic cuisine. Hofn is also a great launch par for a lot of outdoor stuff in the northeast.

Jun 8, 2024 · Fresh snow here at the moment (Laugar, 30 min south of Húsavík) and our plan was to drive to Höfn today. Looking outside the window (fresh snow) and at the road conditions now (3:20 am) I doubt if this is a good idea. Yesterday we had to make a u-turn on de way to see Myvatn lake because of thick fog already.

If you have a full free day in Höfn and the weather/roads are decent I’d go to like Breiðdalur and back, taking your time in both directions to take in the landscape, with lots of opportunities for little stops, viewpoints, waterfalls, etc. along the way. 2. true.

Save your money; don’t believe the social media marketing hype Iceland promotes. The US and Canada are far more majestic, pretty and cost effective. Norway is prettier than Iceland in everywhere and better auroras. The car rental can run you $200+ per day if you get full insurance (which you should). Food is expensive, even if you shop at bonus.
