Elston is a village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district, in Nottinghamshire, England, to the south-west of Newark, 0.5 mi (800 m) from the A46 Fosse Way. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 census was 631, [1] increasing to 697 at the 2021 census. [2]

Elston Lodge on the Fosse Way was built in 1801 by William Brown Darwin as a place to shelter overnight when awaiting the arrival of the London coach which would stop there at 5 in the morning. Sometimes the coach was full and he would have to return home three quarters of a mile up the Lane.
Elston is a village in Nottinghamshire, to the south-west of Newark-on-Trent, and a mile from the A46, the ancient Fosse Way. It stands in the meadows between the rivers Trent and Devon, beside the smallere village of Syerston. The village is set amongst trees and farmland.
Most noticeable is that, despite the joining of Elston and East Stoke parishes in 1872, the village still consisted of a two separate strings of houses along Top Street and Low Street for the next seventy years, and no substantive building took place along Toad Lane or Pinfold Lane until the end of the Second World War.
