Belief in the life in the hereafter (Aakhirah) – after a person’s death and also at the end of this world – is one of the six tenets of a Muslim’s faith (the others being belief in Allah, His angels, His revealed books, His prophets and messengers, and Qada wal-Qadr or the Divine decree).
In the Quran, we find this world and the next world described in the following terms:" But you prefer the worldly life, While the Hereafter is better and more enduring." (Surah Al-Alaa 87:16-17) " You desire the good of this world (i.e. the money of ransom for freeing the captives), but Allah desires (for you) the Hereafter."

Living for the world is to pursue carnal desires. Living for the Hereafter is to busy oneself with accumulating provision for it. The latter is considered living in this world but not a worldly life. By extension, the lives of the prophets and the righteous were for Islam.

Allah states this in the verse below: Mutual rivalry for piling up (the good things of this world) diverts you (from the more serious things), until you visit the graves.
However, this does not mean that life in the Hereafter refers to one’s good or bad reputation, nor does it mean that it is conceptual and unreal. It is now reasonable to discuss the relationship between life in this world and the Hereafter, and to clarify the type of relationship between the two.
