Bonnétable (French pronunciation:) is a commune in the Sarthe department in the region of Pays de la Loire, northwestern France. Bonnétable is twinned with Horncastle in rural Lincolnshire. Bonnétable is located in the Sarthe, about twenty miles north of Le Mans. The town belongs to the Community of Communes Maine 301. Located on a swamp, the city established from the 11th century was called Malester (from the Latin "malum stabulum" ill prepared).
