Bescanó (Catalan pronunciation: [bəskəˈno]) is a small town in the province of Girona and autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The municipality covers an area of 45.86 square kilometres (17.71 sq mi) and the population in 2014 was 4874.
The municipality of Bescanó is located on the right bank of the Ter river, west of the Gironès region. It occupies 36 km2 of the eastern buttresses of the Guilleries. The towns of Bescanó, Estanyol, Montfullà and Vilanna share a Mediterranean landscape of forested hills.
In Bescanó, in Gironès, there’s an enormous hole waiting to be discovered: the crater of the Crosa volcano. With a diameter of 1,250 metres, it’s the largest crater on the Iberian Peninsula. There are three well signposted trails that cover the over 200 hectares occupied by the volcano, which form a Protected Area of Natural Interest.
