Vijayadashami (Sanskrit: विजयादशमी, romanized: Vijayadaśamī), more commonly known as Dassahra in Hindi-Urdu, [a] and also known as Dashāhra or Dashain in Maithili and Nepali, is a major Hindu festival celebrated every year at the end of Durga Puja and Navarahtri.
In the south, the festival is known as Vijayadashami and involves worshiping Goddess Durga. In the east, particularly in Bengal, it culminates with Durga Puja celebrations, while in some regions, Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, is also worshipped.
