    Sonakshi was a pleasant surprise and did an excellent job. Alia and Varun were very good, Madhuri was grace personified, and Sanjay Dutt was kind of one-note, but his role didn't give him much scope to be anything else. I think if you view the movie as a period drama, it was wholly unconvincing.
