St Bartholomew's Hospital is a centre of excellence for heart and cancer care. In addition to heart and cancer care, we provide a number of additional services including endocrinology, fertility, respiratory, thoracics and a minor injuries unit.

Surgeons have used a robot to operate on a beating heart for the very first time at Barts Heart Centre. Until recently, patients needing a coronary bypass to divert blood around narrowed or clogged arteries were offered open heart surgery, which involved cutting open the breastbone.

Our endocrinology service, based at St Bartholomew's Hospital, offers treatment and care for many rare endocrine conditions. Endocrinology is the study and management of rare and complex diseases that affect the glands of the body.
The Perfusion service provides clinical perfusion services to the Barts Heart Centre. Perfusionists are responsible for the use of a heart-lung machine during cardiac surgery to temporarily take over the pumping function of the heart and oxygenation of the blood.
