There are large concentrations of Indo-Guyanese. Enmore is known for the Enmore Martyrs, who were slain during a 1948 labour dispute in the village.

It was designed by renowned Guyanese artist, Dr. Dennis Williams and constructed by Zenith Industrial and Construction Cooperation Society in 1976, on behalf of the Government of Guyana.
