Remember, Kamsa was son-in-law of Jarasandha and who inturn was very very powerful. Jarasanndha was supported by many asuras. Just imagine all these asuras coming together (Jarasandha, Kamsa, Narakasura etc) and fighting the Kurus..Bhisma et al would have been laid down flat in no time, however strong they might have been.

Finally, on the 18th attack (along with Kalayavana), Lord Krishna moved the Yadavas to the island city of Dwarka. My question is what is the significance of the 17 attacks ? Why did either side wait for the 17 attacks ?
Apr 1, 2015 · In Harivamsa (also written by Vyasa) when Karna fight side by side with Jarasandha to complete the conquest of the Vrishnis of Dwaraka, Karna is tied up with a rope and thrown into a cave by Pradyumna (Rukmini's son). It is given in Harivamsa chapter 84, what happened when Karna attacked Dwarka. And this was much before Vana Parva.
