Sēnasammata Vikramabāhu [note 1] was King of Kandy from 1469 to 1511. Before becoming independent the provinces that made up the Kingdom of Kandy belonged to the Kingdom of Kotte. Vikramabāhu founded the city of Kandy, [1] and during the reign of Parakramabahu VI Kandy became a separate entity seceding from Kotte. [2]

Senasammata Vikramabahu ruled the Kingdom of Kandy as a semi-independent kingdom under the Kingdom of Kotte, Vikramabahu founded the city of Kandy making it the new capital of the Kandyan Kingdom. After 1476 the kingdom became a separate entity seceding from Kotte.

Kandy first appears in history as a separate entity, when in. reign of Parakramabahu VI of Kotte, it seceded from the Kingdom. Once the strong hand of Parakramabahu was centrifugal forces operated, and Senasammata Vikramabahu, secessionist leader, became the founder of Kandy.
