Often called the birthplace of Chinese civilization, Xi'an is the oldest of China's Four Great Ancient Capitals, serving as the capital city of 13 dynasties spreading intermittently across a 1,100-year period from 221 BC. Xi'an is located in North Central China. It is about 2 hours by air from Beijing and 2½ hours from Shanghai.
One of the fun things to do in Xi'an definitely is cycling on the City Wall. This is the most complete ancient city wall that has been preserved in China. The existing City Wall was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) with a total length of 13.7 km (8.5 miles). In addition to the main wall, there are Archery Towers, Watch Towers and 98 Ramparts.
