Wyandotte (/ ˈ w aɪ ə n d ɒ t / WY-ən-dot) is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 25,058 at the 2020 census. Wyandotte is located in southeastern Michigan, approximately 11 miles (18 km) south of Detroit on the Detroit River, and it is part of the collection of communities known as Downriver.

Wyandotte, city, Wayne county, southeastern Michigan, U.S., on the Detroit River, just southwest of Detroit. Settled about 1820, it was laid out in 1854 on the site of the Huron village near where the Ottawa chief Pontiac had planned his attack on Detroit in 1763. Its name recalls the Wendat.

By 1867, Wyandotte was a fast growing industrial community and was incorporated as a city. The first major industry was the Eureka Iron Company, built in 1855. The location was perfect as the river and Great Lakes allowed for transportation of iron ore from Northern Michigan.
