  2. Vigo is a surprisingly great travel destination - in fact one of the best in Spain. Here is a travel guide to Vigo and 10 reasons why you should visit.

    • Cuisine. Food is everything for Spaniards, but in Galicia (or just the north of Spain) we take it to the next level. Practically every social gathering you can think of – meeting with a friend, spending Sunday afternoon with the family, a birthday or any other kind of party – will involve food, and of course, drinks.
    • Cies Islands (or Islas Cies) In the early ’90s, I spent so many summers at these beautiful islands with my friends and family. The Cies Islands have changed a lot in the past 40 years: they went from being Galicia’s best-kept secret to being declared a nature reserve in the 80s and then included in the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park in 2002.
    • Casco Vello. Although Vigo doesn’t many impressive historic buildings within the city, today we have a charming, restored old town area in the city center that we call Casco Vello (in Galician).
    • Beaches. Samil is the city’s main beach and it’s only a 15- to 20-minute car ride from the city center. While I have to admit that this is not the best beach around (Vigo has absolute treasures when it comes to beaches), it’s a really nice quick visit if you want to step out of the city.

    • Castro Fortress. Surely the best introduction to the city and its epic landscapes is to survey them from the granite walls of this 17th-century fortress.
    • Parque del Monte Castro. The park around the fort isn’t so much an urban pleasure garden as a wild mountain right in the middle of the city. If you fancy a workout you can tackle Monte Castro on foot, and even though it’s a challenging walk there are lots of interesting features to divert your attention.
    • Cíes Islands. Allow a day or two for this stunning uninhabited archipelago that sits at the entrance to the Vigo Estuary. During the summer there are two companies (Mar de Ons and Nabia Naviera) running ferries at roughly half-hour intervals from the harbour to the islands.
    • Beaches on the Cíes Islands. The Cíes Islands’ beaches deserve another entry, because you may not encounter more exquisite bays anywhere in the world.
  5. Jun 3, 2019 · The seaside town of Vigo offers plenty of things to do. Slurp oysters, lounge on secluded beaches, and cruise the harbor in Spain's largest fishing port.

  6. 1. Rande Bridge. You can’t get a complete feeling of Vigo without driving across the Rande Bridge and enjoying the views of San Simón Island, the Cíes Islands and the immensity of the Vigo estuary. We recommend you go to one of the viewpoints in Vigo to see it at night, hanging majestically over the sea.
