The flag of the Czech Republic ( Czech: státní vlajka České republiky) is the same as the flag of the former Czechoslovakia. Upon the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in December 1992, the Czech Republic kept the Czechoslovak flag while Slovakia adopted its own flag.
The winning proposal incorporated a blue triangle at the hoist of the existing flag. Since the Slovak colours were red, white, and blue and the Ruthenian colours were blue and yellow, this gave symbolic reference to those parts of the nation.

Jan 20, 2015 · The Czech Republic kept an old flag of the former Czechoslovakia and Slovakia created their own flag having the same colors but with the shield of arms in the upper hoist. Initially the Czech Republic chose the flag consisted of two colors – red and white, which reminded Polish one.
The National Flag of Czech Republic features two equal horizontal bands of white (top) and red with a blue isosceles triangle based on the hoist side; the country uses Czech koruna as its national currency; and its national anthem is "Kde domov muj" (Czech).
