    Camberwell (/ ˈ k æ m b ər w ɛ l / KAM-bər-wel) is an area of South London, England, in the London Borough of Southwark, 2 + 3 ⁄ 4 miles (4.5 kilometres) southeast of Charing Cross. Camberwell was first a village associated with the church of St Giles and a common of which Goose Green is a remnant.

  3. It has some really great places to eat and drink, Stormbird for drinks, Daily goods for Coffee, There’s also Camberwell arms, Theo’s pizza, Silk Road, and Wuli Wuli just to mention a few. (I’ve seen famous actors eat in last two places) Theres lots of young people and a really nice sense of community.

    • Parks. Camberwell Green is getting a makeover and Burgess Park, Ruskin Park, Myatt’s Fields, Lucas Gardens, Brunswick Park and the private Lettsom Gardens are all lovely.
    • Groceries. Ask the proprietor at Cruson to pick you out a perfectly ripe avocado. He’s spot on every time. There’s a weekly farmer’s market and the fruit at TFC is gorgeous.
    • Pubs. The foodies’ favourite is the Camberwell Arms but the Crooked Well, Tiger and Sun all do great food too. The Hermits Cave is a traditional pub with wood panelling.
    • Art. Don’t miss the annual Camberwell Festival. The South London Gallery has regular exhibitions, a lovely shop and cafe. The area is full of studios for makers and artists.
