Nov 17, 2014 · In 1905, Inglewood was a sleepy, unincorporated hamlet two miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles. That year a group of local businessmen, including Mark G. Jones, R.H. Raphael and P.W. Powers, formed the Inglewood Cemetery Association.
In 1905, a group of visionary Centinela Valley businessmen decided to pool their resources and form the Inglewood Park Cemetery Association. At this time, the area was sparsely settled with farms and small homes, but it was growing and needed a designated place for burials.
Early backers of the Inglewood Cemetery Association were Senator Robert N. Bulla, Mark G. Jones, Robert H. Raphael, Tom Hughes, P.W. Powers, Byron Oliver, B.J. or V.J. Rowan, F.K. Eckley, C.B. Hopper, Harry M. Jack, John R. Powers, George Letteau, Jennie Wild, and Will G. Nevin.
Jul 26, 2014 · A group of local businessmen formed the Inglewood Park Cemetery Association in 1905 in order to develop a new burial ground on land at the northeast corner of Manchester Boulevard and Prairie Avenue. Though the Inglewood settlement had been in existence since the 1880s, Inglewood wasn’t incorporated officially until Feb. 8, 1908.
Inglewood Park Cemetery Association was formed in 1905 to address a pressing human need. The first interment occurred on July 20, 1906. When Centinela Valley was sparsely settled, funeral processions arrived on horse-drawn carts.
