Rain was born in Seoul, South Korea on June 25, 1982 as Jung Jihoon. He was extremely shy in elementary school; in interviews he's stated that he barely spoke.
Jul 25, 2022 · Once his career kicked off, Ji Hoon chose to go by Rain after his producer told him that he "gives [off] an impression of sadness" when he dances. To represent this apparent somberness, he adopted the Korean word for rain — "Bi" — as his stage name. "As sad as rain falling," he said in an interview.
