It's more likely, imo, that "nah" was initially [nɑ] and was fronted to [næ] in some dialects, including your own. Also, you've given away that you have the cot-caught merger, because the vowel in "cot" is /ɑ/ in American English -- /ɔː/ is the "caught" vowel as well as the one in "saw".
