A self-taught filmmaker who came to Hollywood from North Carolina, he quickly learned the business and further cemented his reputation as a major figure in American fantastic cinema by directing SOCIETY, BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR and RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD III.
