  1. Jul 16, 2017 · The whitewashed and dark grey basalt resembles a noble town house rather than a religious institution. When the Jesuits were expelled from Portugal during the eighteenth century the building was plundered. Although the Jesuit College retained the building through paternal inheritance in 1939 it was donated to the City Council of Ponta Delgada.

    On our first day in the Azores, we planned to keep it easy and explore the capital city itself. A day was enough to see the attractions the city offers, and we walked to most of them. So, here’s how to spend a day in Ponta Delgada!

    Since we were in Ponta Delgada for 5 days, we tried a few restaurants for lunches and dinners. Here are my 3 favourites worth mentioning!

  4. Spent 5 nights in Ponta Delgada in a 4 bedroom penthouse condo in a great neighbourhood, walking distance to bakeries, grocery store and the city centre. Found the city very clean, very conscious of recycling, compost and garbage collections. Toured the whole island and had a great time. Food was excellent at all restaurants--inexpensive.
