When the Jesuits were expelled from Portugal during the eighteenth century the building was plundered. Although the Jesuit College retained the building through paternal inheritance in 1939 it was donated to the City Council of Ponta Delgada.

   Spent 5 nights in Ponta Delgada in a 4 bedroom penthouse condo in a great neighbourhood, walking distance to bakeries, grocery store and the city centre. Found the city very clean, very conscious of recycling, compost and garbage collections. Toured the whole island and had a great time. Food was excellent at all restaurants--inexpensive.
