Drogas Wave is based on a story about a group of slaves that jumped off a slave ship transporting them from Africa. The slaves did not drown, and instead somehow managed to live under the sea. They spent the rest of their underwater existence sinking slave ships. ‘Drogas’ is the Spanish word for drugs.

Drogas Wave (stylized in all caps) is the seventh studio album by Lupe Fiasco, released on September 21, 2018; his first as an independent artist and the sequel to Drogas Light. It debuted at number 60 on the US Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 11,099 copies in the United States.

The last two tracks of the album - Happy Timbuck2 Day and Mural Jr. serve as the closing credits for the whole project.

It’s the second album in a planned trilogy of related projects, yet in those three years since it came out, Lupe seems to be in no rush to complete said trilogy. He does things on his own time, his own way, and if you want it you’re going to have to wait.
