Jacksonville (US: / ˈdʒæksənˌvɪl / JAK-sən-vihl) is the most populous city proper in the U.S. state of Florida, located on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Florida. It is the seat of Duval County, [9] with which the City of Jacksonville consolidated in 1968.
Duval County (/ d j uː ˈ v ɔː l / dew-VAWL) is a county in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Florida. As of July 2022, the population was 1,016,536, up from 864,263 in 2010. It is Florida's sixth-most populous county. [2] Its county seat is Jacksonville, with which the Duval County government has been consolidated since 1968. [3]

Fayette County was created in 1832 from the portion of Jackson County east of the Chipola River, with county seat at Ochesee (now in Calhoun County east of Altha).In 1834 it was merged back into Jackson County.
