April Morning is a 1961 novel by Howard Fast, about Adam Cooper's coming of age during the Battle of Lexington. [1] One critic notes that in the beginning of the novel he is "dressed down by his father, Moses, misunderstood by his mother, Sarah, and plagued by his brother, Levi."

April Morning was adapted into a made-for-TV movie starring Tommy Lee Jones in 1988. Other Howard Fast works adapted into movies include Freedom Road, The Crossing, and Spartacus.
T his made-for-TV film may be the first dramatization of the Lexington-Concord battle since Disney’s “Johnny Tremain” (1957). It’s very well done, although the identity of the person who fired the “shot heard ’round the world” (the first shot in the U.S. Revolutionary War) is fictionalized.
