Moret-sur-Loing ( French pronunciation: [mɔʁɛ syʁ lwɛ̃], literally Moret on Loing) is a former commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region in north-central France. It is situated on the river Loing, close to its confluence with the Seine.
Moret-sur-Loing is situated at the south-east corner of the extensive forest that surrounds the Chateau de Fontainebleau, and 65 kilometres south-east of Paris. Although it is only a few kilometres south of the Seine, it is actually a tributary of this river called the Loing that passes through the centre of the town.
The picturesque medieval town of Moret-sur-Loing is a former stronghold lying at the edge of Fontainebleau forest and on the tranquil water of the Loing. It inspired many Impressionist painters, in particular Alfred Sisley who spent the last 20 years of his life there.
