Kupwara district is an administrative district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir in the disputed Kashmir region. It is one of the 10 districts located in the Kashmir Valley Division of Indian administered Kashmir .

The Kupwara district, carved out from erstwhile District Baramulla in 1979, is located to extreme north of Jammu and Kashmir. It is almost 110 kms away from Srinagar city. Sadhna Pass, previously called as Nastachun pass, is a mountain pass in Jammu and Kashmir. It is located in the Himalayas and connects Karnah tehsil of Kupwara district with the rest of the Kashmir valley. It is approximately 30 km away from Kupwara main town. It is located in the vast Shams Bri mountain range. It is about 3130 m above sea level.
