The movie is a remake of the Wages of Fear, something Friedkin denied despite it being a hilarious lie, which is superior in every conceivable way. Everything he added, especially giving the men backstories, just made the movie worse.
Sorcerer is a masterpiece full of slow burning tension and a descent into misery. I saw this film after a recommendation and it blew away my expectations. It's a late 70s thriller based on the book The Wages of Fear, and stars Roy Scheider.

Though dismissed at the time, Sorcerer 's standing has improved considerably over the years to the point where it now stands alongside the director's best work. Recommendation. Haven't seen this film mentioned before but this is one of the great thrillers of the 70's. The story centers on a small shit hole town in South America. A wild west sort of place that attracts low lives with no where else to go who work as day laborers for an oil company.
